Buchholz in der Nordheide (the name affix means "in the northern Lueneburg Heath" and is part of the official town name), a young and striving town in the southwestern part of the Hamburg Metropolitan Region (Town charter since 1958, about 39,000 inhabitants in 2005, trend: well increasing) was in the 80s of the past century - as well as Gifhorn and Hamburg - locale of a beneficial spiritual awakening inside the Regional Protestant Church, namely in the local parish church of the southwestern town district Sproetze. Just as in Gifhorn and Hamburg, it was unfortunately impossible to provide this reviving awakening with a lasting home inside the people's church. While in Hamburg Wolfram Kopfermann, then one of the pastors at St Peter's, just in time began treading the path of establishing a free independent church, the awakening inside the people's church in Buchholz-Sproetze - just as in Gifhorn - was destroyed at the end of the 80s by a strong opposition of "unchurched nominal church members" who called the challenge to follow Jesus with all of one's heart "discriminatory preaching". While deathly quiet came upon Sproetze parish church, the scattered fellow believers of this awakening gathered in other churches. Not least because of these circumstances there is a comparatively large number of fervent Christian churches between Buxtehude, Tostedt, Schneverdingen, and Seevetal today, and even a Christian faith-based school in Buchholz. Now, the most important spiritual centre of the region, with strong supra-regional radiation, is "Christus Centrum Tostedt", church of the president of the BfP Ingolf Ellssel, home of the nationwide known "Tostedt Community Gospel Choir" (TCGC) and initiating church of the "Lobpreis-Liederboerse" ("Praise Song Exchange"). The northern Lueneburg Heath is regarded as regional centre of the "black scene", i.e. satanism and gothicism (Gothic cult).
