Uelzen (note that German spelling also is 'Uelzen', not 'Ülzen'!) is located at the periphery of the area of the great Lutheran revival in the Lueneburg Heath during the 19th century that was related to the ministry of Reverend Ludwig Harms, Hermannsburg, and that resulted in the development of a Lutheran free church, a predecessor of today's SELK. This is the reason why there is a remarkably high number of SELK congregations (often having "classical" church buildings) in the Celle/Gifhorn/Uelzen area today. In 2002, by establishing FeG Uelzen it came to a successful planting of a new fervent local church. Additionally, there are several small BfP congregations ("Stationsgemeinden") in the Uelzen area. Uelzen is home town of Christa Meves, a nationwide well-known Christian psychologist and psychotherapist and currently one of the most committed and prominent Christian voices in the conflict with the influence of the Zeitgeist on marriage, family, and education.
